What Riu are you reffering to? I am getting married this September at Riu Palace Las Americas which is located next Riu Cancun (which may be the one you are talking about). I visited that hotel shortly, it looked very nice. We only walked through to go to the club there. We stayed at the hotel we are getting married in; it is beautiful. Let me know what info you are looking for and I will try to help you as much as possible

Hi thanks so much for getting back to me! As of right now we are trying to decide between the Riu Cancun and the Riu Palace Las Americas. Just wondering if they allow outside vendors? Also wondering about the sights where they do the ceremonys?? And is that true that they only do the civil weddings or non denominational weddingshuh.gif Are you two working with a TA. I just met with a TA for the first time last week and Riu seemed to be the most affordable. We are looking to get married in Oct 09, so we figure the earlier the planning the better price. If there is any info you can share with me that would be great!! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!!smile159.gif

Hi! Regarding vendors, I hired an outside photographer and videographer. There are no charges from the hotel for these outside vendors, however I do need to purchase day passes for them since it is an all-inclusive resort. I'm not sure about DJ's though, I need to email them and ask. For Riu Palace, they have 3 different sites to choose from: beach, gazebo, and terrace. We chose the gazebo. It's right next to the pool, which I'm not that excited about, but it has a great view of the ocean (I attached a pic). And yes, they offer civil and religious ceremonies only (I think that's what all the resorts offer). And for your last question, no, we didn't go through a TA. We shopped around for $$ and we got a much better deal just purchasing our vacation package from travelocity.com. Our guests didn't seem to mind it either, I provided them with enough info that they purchased their packages online with no problems.

Jenny helped me with ??'s I had with these resorts also and had great pics, so hopefully you get all the info you need to start planning!! Here are some pics from Riu Palace Las Americas from my vacation:

Leslie,

Thank you for all of the info you are so sweet!! I'm having the hardest time finding Riu Cancun information on here! Everything seems to be Dreams or El dorado..so I was a little worried that the Riu's in Cancun werent good! How many days are your guests staying? Are you two staying longer and honeymooning? What is a rough price that your guest each have to pay we were quoted about $880 for 4 day 3 nights at the Riu Cancun and $990 for 4 day 3 night at the Riu Palace. Is that true that there is unlimited golfing at the Riu Palace...my fiance is sold on the Riu Palace if there is...MEN!!

I felt the same way you did! I had already booked our wedding at Riu before I joined the forum and I couldn't find any other Riu brides in Cancun. I was starting to get worried! But like I said, my FI and I went there last year and were very impressed with the hotel and the staff. One thing you may want to consider when finalizing the hotel is whether you are going to have children attend your wedding. Riu Palace is more of an adult hotel (they do allow kids though) and Riu Cancun is more child friendly (they have a playground and babysitting). Most of my guests are staying 6 days/5 nights and the average $ is about $900. My FI and I are staying for 2 weeks. I'm sure the prices will vary from departure locations. We are all leaving from LAX (in LA) and $$ tend to be less expensive because it is a large and busy airport. I'm not sure about the golfing, though. You may want to email them and ask. Have you checked out what their website stated about golf? To be honest, we drank, ate, drank some more, and went out at night the entire time we were there. I didn't really take advantage of the sports or other amenities they had to offer. Here are more pics..

Your room has bottles that are replaced every other day, plus you have a fridge full of beer and drinks to mix with.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
